Did you know that low muscle tone is common in chi Did you know that low muscle tone is common in children with Down syndrome?

One thing I’ve learned through Mia is that Down syndrome doesn’t look the same in every child. ❤️

Mia has Mosaic Down syndrome, which means some of her cells have the typical number of chromosomes and others have an extra copy of chromosome 21. Because of this, some of the characteristics commonly associated with Down syndrome can affect her differently.

For Mia, low muscle tone hasn’t affected her greatly. When you watch her play, climb, run around, or explore, you might not notice it at all. Her everyday movement and muscle tone can look very typical.

Where we do notice it more is with endurance. Mia can tire more easily, and when she’s sick, she tends to use her body less and can lose some of that strength and stamina temporarily.

And then there’s cheerleading. 📣

Cheer is giving Mia opportunities to build strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and confidence—all while doing something she absolutely LOVES.

Sometimes people see a diagnosis and make assumptions about what a child can or can't do.

But Mia keeps reminding us that a diagnosis doesn't tell the whole story.

She is Mia first. And she gets to show us what her Down syndrome looks like. ❤️

Ok friends… we have a SPECIAL announcement! 🎉📣🦋 A Ok friends… we have a SPECIAL announcement! 🎉📣🦋

As a cheerleader growing up, a little part of me always dreamed of having a competitive cheerleader kiddo. And then there was the other part of me that remembered just how exhausting, overwhelming, and EXPENSIVE competitive cheer can be. 😂 It took a toll on my mind, body, and soul!

So when Char decided to choose the ball sports route, I welcomed the change. 🥍⚽️

Then Mia started her new school, and we found out they had a cheer team. And if you know Mia, you know she LOVES to cheer, dance, and sing! 💃🏼📣❤️

Then we found out something BIG…

This is the FIRST year their team has been invited to the National Championships in Orlando! 😭🎉 And we don't know if this opportunity will ever happen again.

Mia's team at @madonna_learning_center is the ONLY regional special needs cheerleading group—and now they are headed to NATIONALS! 🏆✨

And here's the part that feels a little surreal…

I won Nationals in 2001. 🥹 So somehow, all of this is coming full circle.

But this time, I'm getting to experience it in a completely different way. A way where I can cheer, support, celebrate, and ENJOY it in a way I never could have imagined.

And yes… I have it in me to be a CRAZY cheer mom! 😂📣

Don't get me wrong—I will absolutely cheer for my Mia. Loudly. Probably embarrassingly. 😂 But God has shown me that my expectations for Mia are different. They aren't whether she wins. They are about perseverance no matter what. Hard work no matter the outcome.

And most of all…

Love and FUN all the way. ❤️

So here we go, Mia girl.

Mommy is putting her cheer shoes back on. 📣😉

Mia is going to NATIONALS! 🏆🎉

And I couldn't be more proud of her. ❤️ Want to be a part of this journey? You can head over to my Facebook and find multiple ways to help!

Y'all I know it's silly because I've never even me Y'all I know it's silly because I've never even met her, but this one hits hard! I'm a huge Dolly Parton fan. She gifted our family hundreds of books, inspired me many times through her songs, connected with me as a girl from Tennessee and proclaimed Jesus from the mountaintops! You will be missed, @dollyparton 💞

"As she sewed, she told a story
From the Bible she had read
About a coat of many colors
Joseph wore and then she said
Perhaps this coat will bring you
Good luck and happiness
And I just couldn't wait to wear it
And momma blessed it with a kiss
...
But they didn't understand it
And I tried to make them see
That one is only poor
Only if they choose to be
Now I know we had no money
But I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
Made just for me"

"The weight became too much. And I started to crac "The weight became too much. And I started to crack.

That is why, sitting on my porch that day, looking at that enormous oak tree, I suddenly understood why I couldn't stop staring at her. I had been admiring her strength. But it wasn't until I looked at her differently—until I stopped simply seeing how tall and magnificent she was and began to notice the deep cracks running throughout her—that I understood. She was strong, but she wasn't without scars. And somehow, God was showing me something deeper.

You can't fake real strength."

Anyone else relate?? ➡️ This chapter was a hard Anyone else relate??

➡️ This chapter was a hard one to write, but there is wisdom in calling ourselves out.

Part 2: The Becoming - will take us through these following truths:
✨ You Can’t Fake Real Strength
✨ You Can’t Disguise Fear as Confidence
✨ You Can't Ever Give Up
✨ You Can’t Stop Dreaming

"Because I knew how to endure physical pain. I have tattoos. I've had three babies, two of them at home. I did gymnastics through the first half of my life, and I have plenty of scars to prove it. Sometimes, strangely enough, I even crave pain. I know. Strange. But physical pain made sense to me. I knew how to push through it. Emotional pain was different. It exposed me. It required me to admit that maybe I couldn't do everything myself. And that was a much harder thing for me to accept. It has been incredibly difficult for me to admit that I am a person who struggles with mental illness. Because somewhere along the way, I had convinced myself that strong people didn't need help."

Have you ever thought to yourself, "Who actually d Have you ever thought to yourself, "Who actually defines success? Who gets to say what success looks like?" 🤔 I know I have. My perception of success was defined by strength, achievements and academic fluency. That all changed with one beautiful girl...

"At the time, I thought Mia was the hardest thing God had ever asked of me. I thought the lessons she brought into our lives were the lessons I was meant to learn. I didn't realize God was still preparing my heart for what was ahead. Because Mia was never just a chapter leading to another chapter. She was a gift all her own. She was the child God used to teach me that hard does not mean bad. That weakness does not mean failure. That surrender is not giving up—it is trusting the One who sees what we cannot.

Through Mia, God began changing the way I saw suffering, strength, and His goodness. And those lessons would become the foundation I would need for what came next.

Our family was about to grow from five to eight. The road ahead would bring heartbreak, disappointment, stretching, and questions I never imagined asking God. There would be moments when I would wonder how we would keep going. Moments when my faith would be tested in ways I never expected. But before He led us into that valley, He first gave us Mia. The child who would quietly teach us that His strength is made perfect in weakness—and that even when we cannot see what He is doing, He has already gone before us. We were about to discover just how true that really was."
