Day 5, Ladyville @Casa Del Mar
November 6, 2019
Another beautiful day in Belize. We were planning to get out of the house that day. Most mornings we woke up slow, Matt cooked breakfast, kids were already in the bathing suits before I was out of bed and they all took turns with some tablet time. Matt and I went through our times of anxiousness. His was usually in the mornings and mine at night. I love to write, but I am much better at processing my thoughts and recording everything after the fact. I usually don’t have any words during and my journals just end up being nothing. Matt on the other hand did a really good job at taking some alone time to write on that trip.
After breakfast, I rounded up some clothes to start a load of laundry. I walked into both rooms to get their clothes and both beds were made perfectly. I was so surprised. We had not asked them to do this, it was just done out of habit I guess. I can’t get the younger ones to flush the toilet let alone make their beds! The boys later told me that they would have gotten in trouble at Hopewell if they came out of their rooms before the beds were made. They all started sleeping on top of the sheets so they didn’t have to make the beds! Y’all I’m not making this stuff up!
When everyone was done with breakfast, changed into bathing suits if they weren’t already in one and packed a bag of clean clothes, we headed out for our first family outing as a family of 8! We loaded up the van and drove about 10-15 minutes to Bacab Eco Park in Burrell Boom, Belize.
Bacab was a favorite for the kids. They have a gigantic swimming pool with a beautiful waterfall and water slide coming out underneath the waterfall. There was even a shallow section with a mushroom waterfall for Mia! There is so much more to do there like horseback riding, nature trails, biking, kayaking and more. We stuck to the pool each time we went and it was plenty of fun for us. For hours of fun, it costs us no more than $30 US so it was definitely a great option for us to get out of the house together as a family. This was my first time there, but the older kids had been before on a field trip with Hopewell. We learned that this was an excursion stop for most cruise ships that dock in Belize City so we started timing our visits after lunchtime when they were done for the day. One day we even had the entire pool to ourselves!
When we arrived back home, we walked in to a shattered window in the dining room. We had left the window open while we were gone and the wind had blown it out. Lesson learned! We spent the rest of the afternoon swimming, fishing and playing games.Β Matt had to beg the kids to play chess with him the whole trip. Every once in a while they obliged. At our house in Memphis, we do have a lake in our backyard, but this trip really made fisherman and women out of our kids. They are pros now and have spent the majority of their time outside this spring and summer fishing. They would be out there some mornings before Matt and I were even out of bed.
The day ended with Charlee losing a tooth! We bagged it up, put it in her tooth pillow (I was pretty sure she would lose some on the trip, so I brought it) and put it under her pillow. The tooth fairy came that night all the way to Belize, but she only had Belizean money to give! We laid down for our 5th night at Casa Del Mar. Tomorrow would be our last full day in Ladyville.
